new camera

My dear friends all chipped in for a new camera!  I got the new canon power shot sx30 IS.  When I was trying to decide which camera I wanted to get I realized that I wanted a high quality point and shoot.  I realized that while I appreciate the hobby of photography, what I really wanted was a picture that I could just grab and snap.  Also, being the voyeur that I am, I wanted to have good zooming capability.  Here are some shots from the first few days.

happy 40th birthday to me - happy 42nd birthday to jamie

My brother Jamie and I were born on the same day 2 years and 1 minute apart.  In many ways I feel like we are twins because of this.  It's been hard to live on opposite sides of the coast, and I especially miss him on our birthday.  I wish you could have been here with me Jamie!  Meanwhile, a huge thank you to Erin for cooking a 7 course sit down meal for me and to Brian for hosting the evening.  The table was set with mixed vintage dishes that I got from thrift stores and the rest of the stuff was rented.  I started the day off at the flower mart downtown and made these gorgeous fall arrangements too.  I am obsessed with floral arrangements and think that I need to live somewhere where I can have a garden FULL of flowers sometime soon.

It was a beautiful and memorable birthday!

I have such an appreciation for the design of classic cars.

topsfield fair

As I was sitting having my morning coffee, there was some PBS program on about the Topsfield Fair which is the oldest fair in Massachusetts.  Well...obviously I had to hit that up.  Being raised in the midwest, both my brother and I attended the county fair growing up and we were both very much looking forward to the experience.  Fall AND fair?  It was almost too good to be true!  Jamie of course had to look his very best...which I only mention because he then proceeded to snuggle up to goats while we were there.  We got pseudo matching hats while were were there too.  Needless to say we had a blast and there was a lot of consumption happening.  Fried foods...sugary bits...shakes.

Obviously, I am now completely sick to my stomach.

Since I was on the east coast, I decided to go and spend a long weekend with my brother in Lawrance, MA.  My brother is one of the most talented people I know.  He creates such gorgeous pieces of art and has a knack for thrift store shopping (which of course I adore).  Seriously...he can outfit an entire house on $15...and I'm only exhagerating a little bit.  He has impecable taste and I'm always excited to see what new treasures he has acquired since I last saw him.  I was completely blown away by how incredibly beautiful his place is looking.  I especially love the shadows that are created in the late afternoon as the sun going down.

the suffering

Moto is doing some research for her new on-line magazine ( and has asked me to join her in checking some places out in the city.  Ohhhhh the suffering I had to endure!  The things I will do for friends!!!  We visited beautiful hotels, markets, and restaraunts.  We explored and ate our way through Boston.  One of the most unique stops was the Liberty Hotel which is a historical landmark.  It was formely a prison but is now a high end boutique hotel and restaraunt.  GORGEOUS!!!  After all of that adventuring however, I don't think I will need to eat for a month!!!
