We decided to go to the island of Martinique for the weekend.  It was interesting to see how different the islands can be.  We stayed in a monestary our first night, and then a hotel the other two nights in a significantly more populated area.  I think the monestary was a good transition spot and for the record...I have never slept as well as I did in that night.  Martinique was more "mainstream" in the respect that there were shopping malls, home depot like stores, and tons of other businesses.

I went exploring one morning and found an abandoned hotel just down the way from our hotel.  There was all kinds of interesting graffiti inside.  If I hadn't been by myself it would have been fun to wander around upstairs, but given that nobody knew where I was and I had no idea if anyone was inside...I thought it best to be safe, not sorry.

All in all I had a lovely time in Martinique but wish I had done a bit more research before we got there.  I really needed to relax a bit so all in all it was a good spot to do that.

the job site

I went to visit the job site yesterday and took a bunch of pictures to take back and show Kelly the progress and notes for us to take into consideration.  After going through a very extensive design process, it's nice to be able to stand in the very spots where each villa will be built.  Each location has such a unique feel to it.  I can close my eyes and see the whole thing completed and functioning.  This is such a special location...the guest experience is going to be heaven!

dominica - some of the people who are going to make the magic happen

Here are some snaps of the people we are hoping to work with on the island.  They make furniture, baskets, wood carvings, etc.  It's been an honor to meet so many talented and incredibly nice people.  I love seeing what people are doing with what they have.

dominica day 2

On our way to visit the furniture maker Laurance, we happened upon this place called the Geneva Heritage Park.  Wow!  What an unexpected treat! Faye, our client had never been here and we got to take a tour around the property.  The Geneva estate's history is also tied to the Revolution of 1974.  These pictures are of the ruins that remain.

There is so many exciting things going on right now I can barely stand it.  I am featured in Kelly's on-line magazine in the Nostalgia Holiday 2010 issue (!

Everything is coming along great with my big client project in Venice.  We are definately in the layering process and I look forward to the next round of items to come in.

I'm traveling next week to DOMINICA to meet with the building and engineering team there and to go over the furniture drawings with the craftsmen on the island.  I can't wait to go back and see all of the wonderful people we met last time and to get going with the project.  I am endlessly fascinated by the inherent challenges associated with doing a project of this nature.  Stay tuned as I will be posting many pictures from the trip.  The only potentially weird thing is that I will be away during Thanksgiving and get back just before Christmas. top it all off, my friends announced that they are getting married...wait for it...IN SRI LANKA!!!  WOW!!!  I can't wait!  We are going mid-January.  It makes my head spin a little bit to think about how much traveling I will be doing in such a short period of time.

I'm feeling incredibly thankful, blessed, and lucky to be doing all of this!
